With Xbox 360 already in the shops and Nintendo announcing its next generation console is to be called Wii – no really – it’s now Sony's turn to finally reveal when PlayStation 3 will arrive on these shores and how much it will cost.
The answers are 17 November and €499 (approx £340) for a version with a 20GB hard drive and €599 (approx £409) for a 60GB version.
PS3 was originally unveiled this time last year with a rather unusual controller that bore more than a passing resemblance to a banana. Common sense has now prevailed, and the revised controller is a rework of the existing dual shock, but with the shock news (ahem) of motion-sensing technology.
The controller is conveniently wireless and with games, music and movies all available for download, you'll never want to leave the house.
When pressed about having games ready for launch, Sony was less forthcoming, merely showing a range of titles set to arrive at some stage. These included sequels for proven performers like Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy.
